Lip Lift
Long upper lips can be due to the aging process, post rhinoplasty, or congenital. A long upper lip, where the distance between the bottom of the nose and the upper lip is extended, can result from genetic factors, natural aging, or anatomical changes. Genetic predisposition often dictates facial proportions, while aging reduces skin elasticity and support, further elongating the upper lip.
Variations in facial anatomy, such as prominent philtrum or changes in lip musculature post rhinoplasty, can also contribute. Understanding these causes helps in effectively addressing the condition through cosmetic procedures like a lip lift. During her assessment, Dr. Abedi can advise you if you are a surgical candidate for a lip lift.
What is Lip Lift?
Lip lift surgery is a cosmetic procedure designed to enhance the appearance of the lips by shortening the space between the nose and the upper lip. This procedure can make the lips appear fuller and more pronounced without use of fillers or implants. It results in a more youthful and defined lip appearance, which can be especially appealing for those with a naturally longer upper lip.
Types of Lip Lift Surgeries
1. Subnasal (or Bullhorn) Lip Lift
2. Corner Lip Lift
2. Central Lip Lift
This is the most common type. It involves removing a strip of skin in a bullhorn-shape from just below the nose, which lifts the upper lip and exposes more of the tooth enamel.
This procedure focuses on lifting the corners of the mouth to reduce the appearance of a downturned smile. It is often combined with other lip lifts
This method targets the central portion of the upper lip to create a more pronounced cupid's bow and involves a single incision at the base of the nose.
Procedure Details
The surgery is usually performed under local anesthesia unless it is combined with a facelift. Dr. Abedi first makes meticulous measurements along the upper lip and marks the excess skin at the base of the nose to be removed. The incision is placed along the base of the nose and along its natural contours to camouflage the scar. The excess skin is then removed and the lip is repositioned. The sutures are placed with significant care to minimize scarring. They are typically removed after 7 days.
RECOVERY
You go home after the procedure with care instructions to manage the swelling and soreness. You should keep your head elevated and avoid strenuous activities.
