Excessive Sweating treatment
Sweating is a natural bodily function that helps regulate our body temperature and keep us cool. However excessive sweating, or hyperhidrosis, can be quite distressing and embarrassing.
What Is Excessive Sweating?
Excessive Sweating often occurs in the armpits, however you can also have excessive sweating along the palms and soles. People with hyperhidrosis often feel the condition severely impacting their day to day lives.
Dr. Abedi has expertise in treating both axillary (armpit) and palmar hyperhidrosis and can offer effective solutions, including neuromodulator injections (such as BOTOX®), to provide you with a swift relief.
Procedure
Neuromodulators such as BOTOX® or Neuciva work by interrupting the release of a neurotransmitter that triggers sweating. If it is your first time getting this treatment, Dr. Abedi will map the areas of excess sweating using a special sweat test. This helps her to target her injections effectively into the areas with most sweat glands. The area is then cleansed and topical numbing cream is applied to minimize the pain of injection. Botox or Neuciva is then injected under the skin into multiple sites based on the mapping done. Often up to 20 - 30 injection sites may be required in each armpit or palm.
Results
Most patients notice significant reduction of sweating within 1-2 weeks post injection. You will continue to sweat, however, at much more manageable levels, helping you enjoy a more comfortable and sweat free lifestyle.
The results vary from person to person, however the reduction in sweating typically lasts between 4-12 months

Risks and Safety
Benefits
Most patients experience minimum discomfort following the treatment and can resume their usual activities within a few days post treatment. It is essential that you follow Dr. Abedi’s post procedure protocols to ensure safe and full recovery.
Using neuromodulators to treat hyperhidrosis is safe and effective. Dr. Abedi tailors your treatment to address your needs and only offers procedures that have been rigorously tested for patient safety. However, there are always risks with use of neuromodulators which is kept at minimum when an expert injector performs the procedure:
a. Bruising and pain at the injection site
b. Redness
c. Very rarely, the toxin can spread beyond the treatment area, which can cause botulism-like signs and symptoms such as breathing problems, trouble swallowing, muscle weakness and slurred speech. This is very rare and seen only when large volumes of toxin is used in proximity of major blood vessels
d. Very rarely, the toxin can affect the muscles in proximity to the injection site and lead to temporary paralysis. This can be of concern during injections in the palm but remains mainly a theoretical risk of the procedure.
The benefits of excessive sweating treatment with neuromodulators are multifaceted, offering a significant reduction in perspiration that allows you to embrace daily activities without the worry or embarrassment of excessive sweat. This newfound freedom translates to an improved quality of life, fostering confidence and comfort in both social and professional settings.
