What Is Belkyra/Kybella?
Belkyra/Kybella is a non-animal, non-human formulation of deoxycholic acid, a naturally occurring enzyme that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. When injected into the subcutaneous tissue, Belkyra™ destroys fat cells permanently, preventing future fat accumulation in the treated area.
Dr. Abedi offers Belkyra/Kybella injections as a non surgical solution to eliminating the submental fat, commonly known as a double chin. Health Canada has approved Belkyra™ (known as Kybella™ in the U.S.) for addressing moderate to severe submental fullness.
Procedure
The treatment involves injecting Belkyra/Kybella into the fat beneath your chin. 2-4 sessions are often required to achieve optimal results. However we find that many patients notice improvement even after the first treatment. Each session takes about 15-30 minutes and is performed in-office.
Results
Visible changes typically appear within 4 to 6 weeks after the initial treatment. Full results may require multiple sessions, but the outcome is permanent.
Recovery
Benefits of Kybella/Belkyra
Post-treatment, you may experience mild to moderate bruising and swelling, which usually resolves within a few days. It is advisable to avoid vigorous activities for 24 hours to minimize swelling, but you can resume most daily activities immediately. You may experience pain and we recommend icing the area and taking anti-inflammatories to minimize the pain and discomfort.
